Bishop Honore Jacques Sr. and Pastor Solange Jacques are outstanding Christian leaders in the Haitian Community. Prior to coming to the United States, they founded, built, planted and pastured churches in Haiti. Their vision, drive and passion to win the souls of Haitian for God distinguished them as lead pastors of the HaitianChurch of God. They have organized 40 churches and mentored, taught, trained and counseled hundreds of pastors for these churches to reap the harvest.
Cortelyou Road Church of God’s inception began in the home of a member 36 years ago. Bishop Jacques and his wife, Solange had a vision to reach the Haitian people and share the word of God with them. This meant they had to go where the people were. They strategically organized scheduled door to door witnessing, tract distribution, giving out free bibles and biblical literature. The results were amazing. Haitian people from all over the state of New York travel t o attend services. Those individuals were enrolled with the Bishops vision and invited their family members and friends to the church. Overtime, the church experienced phenomenal growth and soon after became the “mother church” of many HaitianChurch of Gods around the world.
The rapid growth church’s made Bishop Jacques realize that training pastors and church workers was an essential priority. Their church became a training center for pastors and church members. Training programs included Bible study, mentoring and hands-on involvement in ministry in the church via internships. Future pastors learned by doing. Hands-on assignments for these pastors made them responsible and accountable leaders. Presently, many of the pastors that followed the patterns of training they received are overseers of their Boroughs, City and/or State. They too are birthing new churches and training leaders and workers for the Kingdom of God.
Due to Bishops Jacques approach of training dividing and multiplying, Haitian Churches of God expanded around the world. Today, Cortelyou Road remains the model church for other ministries internationally.
"Without a vision, the people perish," states Pastor Jacques. "I have had to keep my vision fresh and growing in order to transfer it to my people and to keep them upbeat and united. My approach has been simple and I know it is scriptural and powerful. It consists of three points: reach the lost, raise up faithful disciples, and respond to soul winning opportunities."
